Abco : Spinning the wheel

There is something rather special when you buy pieces for your home that are made locally. It is even better when they are made on your doorstep by people who are devoted to their art and their passion shines through their products.

The Abco pottery studio in Pollenca is where Apolonia and Bernat spin their potters wheel to create beautiful pottery that are inspired by the sea. We absolutely love them and recently added two stunning bowls to our collection. They are perfect for those summer salads that are going to be coming thick and fast now the warm days have finally arrived 😀

Their collection isn’t just limited to the sea as they take their inspiration from across the landscape of the north of Mallorca. In their words…

The landscapes of our corner of northern Mallorca with its beaches, coves, cliffs and mountains, is what inspires us in our work: the blue and turquoise of the colour of the sea, the yellows, reds and oranges of the sunrise and sunset.

Creating a piece from scratch, moulding it, baking it, painting it, enamelling it and seeing how it goes to a place where they appreciate it and pamper it so much or more than us, is the greatest satisfaction of our work.

If you are visiting Pollenca then go and take a look at their shop just around the corner from the studio. You can browse and buy from their comprehensive range of plates, bowls, cups and I even spotted a sobrassada knife the other day, now that is going to be a definite purchase. They can even create something unique for you and at the rate we manage to chip our plates you can never have too many ceramics in your cupboard.
