Puerto Pollença has many restaurants to choose from that suit a very wide range of appetites but for something a bit different then head to Amazo which is just tucked behind the Pine Walk on Carrer de Forementor. The striking Amazonian interior featuring golden monkeys and leafy textures gives a hint to what is to come and with the soft lighting and candles it all goes towards creating a relaxing ambience for a meal that will conjure up some surprises.

Although it opened in 2017, we visited Amazo for the first time just after the pandemic when the world was beginning to open up again. It was very easy to see why everyone was talking about this place and a must go restaurant. We had a very memorable night with outstanding food and fantastic customer service. The desert was a spectacle in itself with the aptly named Chocolate Surprise, that after a fiery golden start, leads you to a delicious melt in the mouth carob.

The menu offers a really subtle blend of South American, Asian and Mediterranean flavours which in the hands of Raul Lopez Perez and his team delivers up some very imaginative plates of food. The Bao Buns filled with local black pork and Korean barbecue sauce are delicious and when paired with the five spice Iberian pork tacos, you’ve got a couple of starters to really get those tastebuds zinging!

You can easily put together a few sharing dishes from the starters menu to kick start your meal and they are very accommodating with requests if there are some allergies or dislikes amongst your group. They have also started a Menu Del Dia for early dining between 18:30 and 20:00, great value at €21 for 3 courses.

We have been lucky to go back a few times and tried lots of the menu… every time we have been impressed with the quality and creativity on the plate, there is clearly thought and imagination that goes into each dish. I think it must be time for another visit, been meaning to try the octopus carpaccio or maybe the steamed duck gyozas but always get distracted by those all so good bao buns!
